We are eating plastic and fucking ourselves by not caring about climate change.

I watched the “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet” and “A Plastic Ocean” over the weekend, on Netflix, as I battled my allergies.

I consider myself an environmentalist and if you follow me on Snapchat, I’m usually ranting about how I do not understand how more people do not care about the environment, particularly when they are people who decided to do the worst thing to the planet and reproduce.

It is illogical to me to not care about the planet, while simultaneously deciding to raise a child.

The biodiversity of our planet is dwindling and we are driving the sixth mass extinction the planet has seen.

I may be in a small minority of people who start crying watching these documentaries and others like “Blue Planet” and “Our Planet” because I am so saddened by how our greed and stupidity is killing other species, and will therefore also be our downfall. But from the most simplistic observation of these films, how do people not watch them and think, “Man, nature is beautiful. We should protect it.”

I understand that many have this perception of, “Out of sight, out of mind,” so they are not directly seeing the impacts of climate change or the waste piles of our trash. But studies indicate that we are now consuming microplastics, so yes, when you decide to not care about recycling, it is inadvertently affecting your health and your child’s health. Studies are still being conducted by how much damage the consumption of plastic does to our bodies, but early studies find it is negatively impacting our health.

I have been on this constant battle to get people to care more about the planet because it just seems obvious to me that we should care about where we live. Secondly, I love animals, and it depresses me that there is a huge lack of compassion when it comes to thinking about other species other than our own. Thirdly, again, we’re really fucking future generations by not changing our behaviors now.

If the Earth warms 1.5 degrees Celsius or more, which we are on track to do if we do not take immediate action, ecosystems will collapse and your son or daughter will be facing more droughts, wildfires, intense storms, floods, poor air quality, restricted access to quality water and food, and many more effects your child and grandchildren will have to suffer through.

So if you care about your kids, which I’m assuming many of you do, start recycling. Eat less meat. Vote for candidates that believe climate scientists. Demand and invest for alternative green sources of energy. Protect lands that conserve nature and wildlife. Reduce, reuse, recycle.

Do it! Or just keep fucking the future of your children.
